  • (1) No public profanity or obscenity.

Vulgar, harassing, inflammatory, or lewd language shall not be used on the gossip, auction, rank, or quest channels or in shouts or yells. If it cannot be said on a network situation comedy (American), it cannot be said on these public channels. Violation will cause your use of those channels to be taken away. In any event, if a 'god' tells you to stop/change topics, do so!

What you say privately is your concern alone, so long as it is not harassment (see the rules list). It is advisable, however, to moderate your language even when dealing privately with someone, because few people appreciate blatant cursing; it is a sign of lack of imagination and shows discourtesy.

    (2) No player killing, except in designated areas.

Player-killing is defined as any action designed to deliberately result in the death of another player. This includes attacking them, summoning them to a room with an aggressive monster, summoning an aggressive monster into Market Square or other areas most people would assume were safe, casting 'disrupt' on them, etc. Player killing is illegal on Imperial Omega, except in arenas.

Arenas are those rooms indicated with a [*] in the room name. Luring someone into an arena without their knowledge for the purpose of killing them is also illegal; the player must be fully aware of the nature of an arena.

Player-killing outside of an arena WILL BE PUNISHED. You will become wanted, and all guards will attack you on sight. The Jailmaster or any immortals who may happen to be around will also jail you. To avoid any unfortunate mistakes, try using your "nokill" toggle.

In any case, whether or not the player-killing is illegal, corpse robbing of players at ANY time is strictly forbidden and will be harshly enforced by the gods.

    (3) No stealing from other players.

Effective May 1, 1999, stealing from players is illegal everywhere in GizmoMUD. It is also illegal to steal a weapon in an arena if the weapon was disarmed from the character.

If you steal from players, you will be PUNISHED. You will become wanted, and all guards will attack you on sight. The Jailmaster or any immortals who may happen to be around will also jail you. Note that stealing from city guards is also an unwise idea, as you will become wanted, as above; if they catch you, though the gods will take no hand in this.

In any case, corpse robbing of players at ANY time is strictly forbidden and will be harshly enforced by the gods.

    (4) No corpse-looting.

Corpse looting refers to looting another player's corpse, which is strictly forbidden and well-enforced by examination of game logs if necessary.

    (5) No spamming.

"Spam" is the term commonly used on the Internet for unwanted and copious output. It is derived from the famous Monty Python "Viking" skit in which Vikings chant "Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam!" over and over again, much to the annoyance of everyone else in the restaurant.

Spam is used both as a noun and a verb. Thus, it is possible for specific output to be spam, and the person creating this output to be in the act of spamming.

Spamming is considered rude and irritating in the extreme, and it is strictly illegal on Imperial Omega. Spamming is defined as being ANY unwanted and unnecessary output, whether it be by say, tell, comm line, or action. Please consider other people before sending ANY large amount of output. If you are warned to stop spamming, do so immediately.

    (6) No threats or harassment.

Threats in-character are part of the game, and can in fact be a source of a lot of fun for all concerned. These threats should be dramatic and relate ONLY to game matters. For instance, swearing upon the Stump of Bragi that you shall cleave someone's character asunder for some nefarious wrong done your character is perfectly acceptable and encouraged.

Threats made against the person playing the character or threats which do not immediately involve the game itself are strictly forbidden. This is not tolerated, and will be enforced as strongly and harshly as possible.

Harassment is considered to be any repeated, unwanted communication from one player to another. If someone tells you to cease communicating with them, do so immediately. Failure to do so will allow a player to lodge a harassment complaint against you.

Note: Recalling a person without their consent, even in an arena area, is considered to be a form of harassment and is considered illegal.

    (7) Keep message boards and communication channels topical.

Communication channels (gossip, auction, quest, etc.) have a specific purpose in most cases, and attempts should be made to keep things said on these channels topical. That is, any equipment sales, for example, should be done on the auction line. This allows people who are not interested in these specific things to turn them off, and improve the "signal to noise ratio." The purpose of a given communication channel is usually self-evident in its name.

The exception to this is the gossip line, which is used for all topics of general interest which do not have their own channels.

Message boards likewise have specific purposes which are detailed in the room in which the particular board is found, or in the name of the board.

    (8) No Tintin abuse.

It is against the rules to attempt to manipulate another player through the use of their programmed actions. Many players have "client" programs (such as Tintin) which they use in an attempt to turn mudding into a futile exercise in robotics, where certain MUD actions cause their roboticized characters to react in certain pre-programmed ways. Since many of these people are not bright enough or patient enough to fix these programs such that they cannot be affected by other players, it is necessary to ban people from trying to deliberately take advantage of these poor lost (or lazy) souls.

Another illegal use of tintin is "bots." In the words of one of our Implementors: "Whether you are at the keyboard or not, it is illegal if your characters move from room to room killing mobs without you having to lift a finger." Another interpretation is: "Any self-sufficient system of character improvement that does not require the attention of the mortal's owner is illegal." Both of these interpretations are enforced.

    (9) No multi-playing more than 4 (FOUR) characters at a time.

By using a "client" program such as "Tintin" it is possible to have more than one character logged in at a given time. It is illegal to have more than four characters logged in at any given time.

    (10) No multi-playing at all of registered SOLO characters.

By using a "client" program such as "Tintin" it is possible to have more than one character logged in at any given time. In order to help level the playing field for people who use only a single character at a time due to either technical limitations or personal preference, it is possible to have a character registered as a "solo," for which they receive certain advantages. You may only have ONE character logged on at a time if they are registered solos. An exception is made for equipment exchanges in Reception.

    (11) Report all known crash bugs. Report other serious bugs also.

It is each player's responsibility to report all bugs that may cause crashes, or any other suspected causes of crashes. Exploiting a known or suspected crash bug for player gain is grounds for severe punishment. Exploiting other bugs may also be grounds for punishment, and it is advisable to report any bugs and anomalies you may discover or hear about.

    (12) No character trading, selling, or transfer.

Characters may not be traded, sold, or otherwise transferred. Characters may only be shared if they are storage characters or if they were a joint creation of the two individuals sharing them and have IMP permission for such sharing.
